Telugu as a National Community Language
Mother Language – Telugu
Mother Language is like heavenly Nectar (Amrutam). Given a choice, we all like to talk, listen and sign in our mother tongue. Mother language reminds our own mother and memories of our mother. Number of people dedicated their lives to mother language to express their love and gratitude to their mothers. Now, you have that opportunity also. Last year Federation of Telugu Associations in Australia (FTAA) submitted an application to Australian Federal Government to recognise Telugu language as a national community language. But that application was rejected due to the following two reasons:
- As per Census 2011, the number of Telugu people in Australia are less than ten thousand.
- It is perceived that Telugu people overall have good communication skills in English and thereby there is no need for language translators in Government services.
As you are all aware Census 2016 which is to take place the night of 9th August. It is important that every Telugu person writes their mother language is TELUGU. The Census 2016 form will have two questions that look very much like what is shown below.
Please answer the first question by writing TELUGU as shown below. Because English is not our mother tongue, we can answer the second question “Not Well” or “Not at all”.
It would be very helpful to get Telugu recognised as a community language if all Telugu people answer the two questions as indicated above. Federation of Telugu Associationsin Australia requests you to share this information with all other Telugu people on Facebook, email, other social media and help obtaining the recognition to Telugu language as a National Community language.
మాతృ భాష – తెలుగు అమ్మ భాష అమృతం అన్నారు పెద్దలు. అమ్మ భాష మాట్లాడాలని, అమ్మ భాష వినాలని, అమ్మ భాషలో పాడాలని – ప్రతీ నిమిషం అమ్మని గుర్తు చేసే చిరు జ్ఞాపకాలను నెమరువేయింపజేసేది అమ్మ భాష. ఎంతో మంది మాతృ ఋణం తీర్చుకోవాలన్న తపనతో అమ్మ భాషకు తమ జీవితాలను అంకితం చేసారు. అమ్మ భాష అమర భాషగా నిలిచిపోవాలని తపించారు. ఇప్పుడు ఈ అవకాశం మీకు కూడా వచ్చింది. బహుళ సంస్కృతీ సాంప్రదాయాలకు పట్టంగట్టే ఆస్ట్రేలియా దేశంలో మన భాషకు అందలం పట్టాలన్న ఆకాంక్షతో ఆస్ట్రేలియా ప్రభుత్వానికి తెలుగు భాషను కమ్యూనిటీ భాషగా గుర్తించాలని గత ఏడాది ఆస్ట్రేలియా తెలుగు సమాఖ్య (Federation of Telugu Associations in Australia – FTAA) ఒక అర్జీ పెట్టడం జరిగింది. అయితే ప్రభుత్వ గణాంక వివరాల ప్రకారం తెలుగువారు 10,000 (2011 గణాంకాలు) కంటే తక్కువే వున్నారు. మరియు తెలుగువారు ఆంగ్లంలో చాలా వరకు పట్టు ఉన్నవారు గనుక సాధికారిక అనువాదుకుల అవసరం లేదని పైనుదహరించిన అర్జీని త్రోసిపుచ్చడం జరిగింది. ప్రస్తుత మన కర్తవ్యం వచ్చే నెల జరగనున్న ఆస్ట్రేలియా సార్వత్రిక గణాంకాలలో ప్రతీ తెలుగువారు తమ మాతృ భాష తెలుగని వ్రాయడం చాలా ముఖ్యం. అడిగే ప్రశ్న ఇంచుమించుగా ఈ క్రింది విధంగా రెండు భాగాలుగా వుంటుంది. మొదటి ప్రశ్నకు (16) క్రింద చూపిన విధంగా TELUGU అని వ్రాయాలి. రెండవ ప్రశ్నకు (17) ఆంగ్లము మన మాతృ భాష కాదు గనుక “Not Well” అని వ్రాయవచ్చు.
తెలుగు వారందరూ పైన చూపిన విధంగా రెండు ప్రశ్నలకు సమాధానం వ్రాస్తే తెలుగు కమ్యూనిటీ భాషగా గుర్తింపబడడానికి ఎంతో దోహదపడుతుంది. ఈ విషయాన్ని మీరందరూ మన తెలుగువారందరితో పేస్ బుక్ లోనూ, ఈమెయిలు లోనూ మరే ఇతర మాధ్యమాల్లో పంచుకొని అందరిచేత మాతృ భాష తెలుగుగా నమోదు చేయించాలని ఆస్ట్రేలియా తెలుగు సమాఖ్య మనవి చేసుకుంటుంది.
